KOZHIKODE: District Medical Officer A. Baburaj has appealed to the public to take a proactive role in maintaining hygiene and combating infectious diseases. A participatory approach in maintaining health rules by all concerned would ensure effective implementation of the immunisation drive, Dr. Baburaj observed. Medical authorities highlighted the need for public cooperation in health care in the backdrop of reported cases of chikungunya, rat fever, dengue and malaria from different parts in the district. Dr. Baburaj highlighted the importance of destroying mosquito-breeding centres, preventing infestation of rats, hygiene in homes and surroundings, flushing of drains and proper disposal of wastes. — Staff Reporter
