BATTLE OF RHINOS: Veterinary doctors and forest officials are trying to save the life of a one-year-old, one-horned rhino at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, about 50 km from Guwahati, on Thursday. The rhino calf was seriously injured after it was attacked by a full-grown male rhino. The increasing rhino population and fierce competition among the animals for food, space, shelter and mates lead to such attacks. The sanctuary has the world’s highest density of rhinos – 86 in less than 18 sq. km. Experts say an ideal rhino habitat should have a pair of rhinos per 2 sq.km. –
