Udhagamandalam: The need to be prepared to deal with emergencies that may arise from the current spell of heavy rain was emphasised at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Nilgiris district BJP held here on Wednesday. Pointing out that on account of the active North East Monsoon many parts of the Nilgiris were experiencing heavy rain, the meeting urged the authorities to step up precautionary measures. They should ensure that all Public Distribution System outlets especially in the flood prone areas had adequate stock of essential commodities. The Committee also wanted the building rules which were in force here to be relaxed. The process of demolishing unauthorised structures which has been initiated in different parts of the Nilgiris should be terminated. The meeting also resolved to organise a number of blood donation camps on November 8 to mark the birthday celebrations of BJP leader L. K. Advani. The Vice President, Nilgiris BJP Chandrashekar presided. The State Executive Committee member Annamalai Murugesan and the District Organising Secretary A. Chandran were among those who participated.
