SB College triumphs

CHANGANASSERY: Host SB College won the Fr. P.C. Mathew Memorial inter-collegiate basketball tournament at the SB College court here on Wednesday.

In the final, SB College overcame Sree Kerala Varma College (Thrissur) 95-83 in extra-time. Both teams were tied at 83 all at the end of regular time. Samju V. Joy (25) top-scored for the winner, while Bibin Chacko (20) was the leading scorer for SKVC.

The results: SB College (Changanassery) 95 (Samju V. Joy 25, Basil Philip 22, Siju Joseph 18) bt Sree Kerala Varma College (Thrissur) 85 (Bibin Chacko 20, Eudric Pereira 19).

Special awards: Best player: Basil (SB College); Promising player: Amal James (SKVC). Player of the final: Siju (SB College).

Chittoor CC scores

At Kochi, Chittoor CC defeated Century CC by one wicket and entered the first phase pre-quarterfinals of the 58th Pooja all-India cricket tournament on Wednesday.

The scores: Century CC 159 in 38.4 overs (D.S. Deepu 52) lost to Chittoor 161 for nine in 35.5 overs).

Appellate tribunal

At Thiruvananthapuram, the Government has constituted a three-member appellate tribunal in accordance with the Kerala Sports Act 2000.

The panel to be chaired by the Law Secretary will have the former BCCI secretary, S.K. Nair and advocate Murukkumpuzha Vijayakumar as its part-time members.

The tribunal will hear and settle disputes arising between the Kerala State Sports Council and any District Sports Council, a sportsperson, between District Sports Councils and the KSSC and any sports organisation, according to an official release.

Assumption wins again

At Muvattapuzha, Assumption College (Changanassery) won the MG University inter-collegiate women’s handball title for the 11th consecutive year at the Nirmala College court on Wednesday.

In the final, Assumption overcame arch-rival Alphonsa College (Pala) 18-14.

Vineesh advances

At Kochi, Kerala’s Vineesh K. Anand defeated D. Venkatesh (AP) 21-10, 21-8 and entered the boys’ singles final of the National junior tennikoit championship in New Delhi on Wednesday.

In the team championship, Kerala lost to TN 22-20, 17-21, 19-21 in the boys’ semifinals. Later, Kerala finished fourth.

Volleyball trials

At Thiruvananthapuram, the trials to select the district junior volleyball team will be held at 8.30 a.m. at the Central Stadium on October 27. Players born on or after 1-1-1991 are eligible. For details contact 9447411550 or 9495550198.
