Sweet revenge for Padmini Rout

Vung Tau (Vietnam): Riya Savant of Goa and Padmini Rout of Orissa won their games on the top board in the under-8 and under-14 girls’ sections of the World youth chess championships.

They are among 22 Indians who have moved on to two full points at the end of the second round.

In the under-14 girls’ section, Padmini Rout defeated Woman Grandmaster Mona Khaled of Egypt with the black pieces. She had lost to the same opponent two years ago in Georgia.

Former World champions Ivana Furtado and N. Srinath bounced back with victories after their first round shock defeats.
