Hyderabad and Guntur enter last four

VIJAYAWADA: Hyderabad, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and West Godavari teams entered the semifinals of the 35th AP State senior handball championship for women being played at Chilumuru on Tuesday.

Guntur defeated Warangal 14-9, while Hyderabad scored a 10-8 victory over Srikakulam.

The results (quarterfinals): West Godavari bt East Godavari 19-1; Viskhapatnam bt Krishna 10-5; Hyderabad bt Srikakulam 10-8; Guntur bt Warangal 14-9.

VSR & NVRC triumphs

Tenali’s VSR & NVR Degree College defeated Vijayawada’s Sathavahana College 25-11 in the last league match to win the Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-collegiate men’s handball tournament here on Tuesday.

League results: VSR & NVR College bt Sathavahana College 25-11; Sathavahana College bt KLCE 37-7, VSR & NVR College bt TRR Degree College 36-12; VRS & NVR College bt KLCE 46-13, Sathavahana College bt TRR Degree College 21-11, TRR Degree College bt KLCE 29-13.

Football tourney

The AP State Undedr-17 football tournament for girls conducted by the School Games Federation will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal stadium from October 22 to 24.

Pat for Bharat Krishna

The members of Krishna District Chess Association and Dr. K.K.R. Gowtham International School management on Tuesday congratulated N. Bharat Krishna, who won all the three district titles (senior, junior and sub-junior) equalling Grand Master P. Hari Krishna’s record. Hari Krishna achieved the feat in early 90s. — Sports Reporter
