Prime accused in NRI murder case held

Staff Reporter

Two accomplices already arrested

Killed: K.T. Shameer

NEW DELHI: The prime accused in the murder of 39-year-old non-resident Indian K. T. Shameer was arrested by the Delhi police at Mahipalpur here on Tuesday. His two accomplices were arrested a day earlier.

Anil Kumar alias Kale was arrested near the Mahipalpur bus stand following a tip-off. He was returning from Rewari in Haryana after visiting a relative.

The country-made pistol used in the crime, a knife, one of the two stolen cell phones and over Rs.1.5 lakh in cash have been seized from him, the police said.

The money was withdrawn using stolen debit cards of the deceased.

Shameer, a native of Kerala, was abducted, robbed and killed allegedly by the three accused whose cab he had hired from outside Delhi airport on October 10. His body was later found dumped on National Highway No. 8 at Bilaspur in neighbouring Gurgaon.

Two of the accused -- Manish and Monu -- were arrested near Sanjay Gandhi T-point on Monday while they were returning from Hardwar.

Investigations revealed that after Shameer engaged their cab on the fateful night, the three tied up his hands and robbed him of his two cell phones, two debit cards and two bags at gun-point. Anil then shot him dead with a country-made pistol to destroy evidence and dumped the body on the highway, the police said.

Police records are being scrutinised to ascertain any previous involvements of the accused.

All three accused are residents of East Mehram Nagar in the Capital.

The Ambassador car used in the crime belonged to Manish’s elder brother.
