Industrial units to remain closed on Oct. 22 in protest against power shortage

Staff Reporter

SALEM: Small and tiny industrial units in Salem will not function on October 22 in protest against the power shortage in the State.

According to a release from Salem District Small Scale and Tiny Industries Association President K. Mariappan, frequent disruptions in power supply have crippled production in the industries particularly small scale and tiny units. Power shortage has added to the issues these units were facing.

Weaving units, chemical factories, fabrication units, furniture units and various small and tiny industries in Salem district would remain closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the day. The protest was planned to draw the attention of the Chief Minister towards the problems faced by these units, he added.

Mr. Mariappan asked the owners of the establishments and employees to participate in the protest.
