Rs. 50 crore sanctioned to Raichur CMC as part of city improvement programme Raichur: The Raichur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the district administration to provide uninterrupted drinking water supply to all the localities in Raichur city while implementing the city improvement programme assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Financial assistanceIn a statement here on Tuesday, Mylapur N. Murthy, president of the chamber, said the ADB was extending financial assistance of Rs. 50 crore to the Raichur City Municipal Council to improve basic facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, roads and the underground drainage system. Work on the project was expected to start within a few months, he said. Mr. Murthy said the ADB had appointed Interface India Development Consultants, Bangalore, as consulting engineers for implementation of the project. The chamber, which discussed the issue with the consultants recently, had given some suggestions for effective implementation of the project. He said the consultants had been asked to improve the rising main at the Krishna Waterworks to pump adequate quantity of water from the river for uninterrupted water supply to all localities in Raichur city. The consultants had also been asked to establish a separate power line to pump water to the filter bed without any interruption. Drawing the attention of the consultants to the worn-out filter bed in the industrial area, the chamber asked them to enhance its capacity to supply safe drinking water to citizens. The chamber also suggested the consultants conduct a survey of all the extension areas around Raichur to assess the water shortage problem and pump adequate water to the problem localities, Mr. Murthy said.
