735 families to be given land

80 acres of excess land earmarked for distribution
100 families owning land will be given title deeds

Thiruvananthapuram: More than 80 acres of excess land will be distributed to 735 landless families in the district at a function to be held here on Wednesday under the auspices of the Department of Revenue.

V. Sivankutty and Mangode Radhakrishnan, MLAs, and District Collector Sanjay Kaul said at a press conference held here on Tuesday that the beneficiaries included 300 families belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities and other backward sections.

They said litigation-free land had been identified for the purpose.

The State government had notified 74.83 acres in Nedumangad taluk, 4.9 acres in Thiruvananthapuram taluk and 43 cents in Chirayinkeezh taluk for the distribution.

Transparent process

The District Collector said the beneficiaries were selected by a transparent process from more than 28,000 applicants.

As many as 100 families in possession of land would be presented title deeds at the function.

Freeze

Mr. Radhakrishnan said there would a 12-year freeze on transactions of the land distributed under the scheme. More land would be notified for the next phase of the scheme.

Food Minister C. Divakaran is scheduled to inaugurate the function to distribute land.

Mr.Sivankutty will preside over the function.

Law Minister M. Vijayakumar and Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran will hand over the documents to the beneficiaries.
