Small industrialists to observe fast

MADURAI: Madurai Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), in coordination with 18 sector-wise associations, is to organise a fast here on October 22 in protest against load shedding by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

Small-scale units in southern districts will also shut down operations for a day on Wednesday.

The president of MADITSSIA, P. T. Krishnamoorthy, in a statement issued here on Monday, claimed that load shedding had resulted in small units not being able to run even a single shift continuously.

Over 20,000 small units in Madurai district had reached a critical stage from where survival would be difficult. While they were not in a position to accept new orders, these units were struggling to execute the orders in hand. Frequent power disruptions resulted in wasting manpower and loss of raw materials and an increase in labour charges, he said.
