A Kochi report “[Union Home Minister Shivraj] Patil warns disruptive forces” (October 20, 2008) incorrectly referred to Mr. V.S. Achuthanandan (in the fourth paragraph) as Minister. Mr. Achuthanandan is the Chief Minister of Kerala. (The error was in some editions.)

A sentence in the sixth paragraph of a report “Medha Patkar on fast in Mumbai” (October 20, 2008) was “Heirs of lands for the Tata dam in Maval and Mulshi talukas, acquired as per the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 (LAQ), are awaiting their dues even after a 100 years”, leading to queries on the figure 100 years. The staff reporter clarifies that the Tata dam project was constructed during the British Raj. The land acquisition process began somewhere in 1918. Land owners were reportedly displaced. They did not get their dues then, and even now, their heirs are fighting to get compensation/dues.

The caption of a standalone PTI photograph “Experiencing the Taj” (“Newscape”, October 20, 2008) was “Lifelike Art: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden touches appreciatively the frescoes at the Taj Mahal in Agra on Sunday ….” A reader points out that according to the OED, frescoes are paintings done rapidly in watercolour on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling so that the colours penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries. In this case, the crown princess is examining the marble sculptures on the wall.

A report “UPA government criticised for ‘inaction’ in Orissa” (October 19, 2008) referred to the Archbishop of Delhi as Archbishop Vincent Concession. It should have been Archbishop Vincent M. Concessao, as given in the caption of the accompanying photograph.
