KRISHNAGIRI: Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded a subsidy of Rs. 3 a litre of milk for producers. It should be directly credited to the milk society members’ savings accounts.

About 500 farmers and milk producers took part in a rally here on Monday asking the State Government to provide the subsidy.

They demanded that the District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation should immediately disburse the pending payments to village milk producers on weekly basis without delay.

The excess milk from the Vellore Union was being brought to the Krishnagiri Union to make milk power. The Krishnagiri Union is spending Rs. 45 a kg, but Krishnagiri Union is getting Rs. 20 a kg. Because of this, the Krishnagiri Union was losing Rs. 50,000 a month. To offset this loss, the State Milk Producers’ Federation should raise the payment for milk powder to Rs. 50 a kg.

District Milk Producers’ Union should be given freedom to determine the prices for milk powder, butter, ghee and other byproducts from milk.

Regularisation

Thousands of employees of the cooperative milk associations were working for the last 25 years with meagre salary. All of them should be regularised without any condition. Employees of closed cooperative associations should given alternative employment or the associations revived. Cattle of the members should be provided free insurance. The sangam vice-president, K.M. Ramagoundar, lead the rally and demonstration before the Krishnagiri District Milk Producers Union Office. Dr. M.R. Sivasamy spoke. K. Venkatachalam, secretary of the association, inaugurated the rally. G.R. Logabram, district president welcomed the gathering. T.B. Sunderasan, district secretary proposed a vote of thanks.

The rally was inaugurated at the 5 Road junction in Pazhayapattai in Krishnagiri.
