THENI: TB seals worth Rs.1,00,800 has been allotted by the Tuberculosis Association of India for the district. The main aim of giving the seals is to raise funds to fight against the dreaded disease, according to Collector S.J. Chiru. In a release here on Monday, he said 84 officials would be engaged in selling the seals in the district. The TB Association has been releasing the seals every year and distributed to every district for sale. Twenty five per cent of the sale proceeds would be sent back to the respective districts for the TB programme activities, another 25 per cent for TB research and other activities at the Central level and the balance 50 per cent would be utilised by the same district for implementation of various proposals tabled by it before the Anti-TB Association of Tamil Nadu. Effective controlA total of 2,293 cases were identified last year of which 659 cases were sputum positive ones. Due to effective supervision and monitoring, 454 cases were cured. Similarly, 1,638 cases were detected till September 2008 of which 541 were sputum positive ones. The Anti-TB Association in the district has been monitoring 341 cases, the Collector said. He appealed to people to buy seals to provide support for the TB control activities in the district. The Central government has permitted the association to conduct the campaign every year from 1950 onwards. The seal sale campaign was commenced on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti Day.
