Clarification
Regarding the report ‘Kuruvai paddy movement hit’ (Page 7, October 19, 2008), the Southern Railway clarifies that wagons were provided without any delay to all goodsheds in Tiruchi Division, especially the delta region, for moving paddy. C. K. Sivaraj, Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, Tiruchi, said empty wagons were supplied to goodsheds for loading paddy based on a programme given by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation’s head office in Chennai. Though it was originally planned to provide 40 wagons for moving paddy from Thanjavur to Dharmapuri on October 17, the TNCSC cancelled the programme. Hence no wagon was provided.
