Inaugurating the “Muthamizh Mandram” at a women’s college in Puducherry, Tamil scholar Prof. Solomon Pappaiya made a plea for developing Tamil by forming Tamil equivalents for several English words (The Hindu dated September 24). Even, if Tamil equivalents are coined they may not get recognition. The more we try to purify a language the less it gains patronage. G.K.S. Kandasubramanian Sivaganga. Increase frequency of busesThe town buses plying in route 6 and 6A (from Ramanathapuram to Alagankulam via Chittarkottai, Puduvalasai and Panaikulam) are always overcrowded. Senior citizens, women, school children and the sick find it difficult to get into the buses during peak hours. As this route connects a large number of villages and hamlets from where the public very often visit Ramanathapuram for each and everything’s, I appeal to the Collector to increase the frequency of buses in this sector by issuing additional route permits. Asmabagh Anvardeen, Ramanathapuram. Special train to RameswaramThe Southern Railway has proposed to operate special trains to all the southern districts. They will operate trains from Chennai to Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Shencottah, Tiruchendur, etc. Rameswaram is an important pilgrim centre in Ramanathapuram district. People from all over India come to Rameswaram for Deepavali. I request the Railway authorities to operate special train to Rameswaram to meet the extra rush on Deepavali. V. Rajendran Paramakudi.
