Residents block road
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: Traffic along the College Road was disrupted for about 30 minutes following a road blockade by residents of Ward 25 on Monday.
They resorted to an agitation after water entered about 100 houses at Kumarappapuram, Kallampalayam and Samathanapuram areas during rain on Sunday night and in the early hours of Monday.
The tenants said that they were forced to spent the nights in their homes in sewage-laden water every time sky opened up, owing to poor drainage facilities. They alleged that storm water drains established in the area were reduced to “scraps” as it had been encroached upon by commercial establishments and mansions.
“Though we have raised the issue with the Corporation officials, no action has been taken,” residents pointed out.
