Harpreet Singh bags title

Chennai: Harpreet Singh took just six frames to beat R. Loganathan in their best-of-nine-frame final to win the Cosmopolitan Club inter-club invitation snooker tournament here on Sunday.

Loganathan made a 44 break midway through the third to gain control of the frame and eventually win it 90-24.

The reversal seemed to halt Harpreet’s progress in the fourth, where, at 25-31, he missed two long reds into the top right pocket in quick succession, and a short yellow into the bottom right.

However, Loganathan couldn’t capitalise, and Harpreet held his nerve to close it out with a 25 break to take the frame 57-49.

The fifth began tediously, with both players making a series of errors on fairly straightforward pots.

After the score had crawled to 21-13, Harpreet broke out of the rut with a burst of assured potting, to clinch the frame 77-13 with a 56 break.

Despite going behind 1-31 in the sixth at one stage, Harpreet kept himself in it with Loganathan lapsing into frequent errors again.

Having cleared all the colours but the pink and black, Harpreet missed a fiddly, long, down-the-cushion pink pot, but at his next turn sent it rolling into the top left pocket with a neatly angled shot to seal the title.

Mr. R. Satyanarayana, former president of Cosmopolitan Club, gave away the trophies.
