DFG sees scope for cooperation in IT, chemistry, physics Plans to increase reciprocal exchanges of scientists HYDERABAD: The Indo-German research cooperation in science and humanities is set to receive a fillip with the DFG, the German funding organisation, planning to increase the reciprocal exchanges of scientists between the two countries. DFG president Matthias Kleiner said that currently around 300 scientists from both the countries were involved in the exchanges and he wished to increase their number. Prof. Kleiner, who visited the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in the city, said he was highly impressed with the research undertaken there and observed that there was a huge potential for collaboration with German scientists, particularly in the area of digital humanities. Talking to The Hindu here, he said DFG was looking at “hotspots of science” in the world to fund collaborative projects and “India is one of them.” The organisation had signed a MoU with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in 2004 for providing project-oriented funding for research cooperation. It also entered into a bilateral agreement with Indian National Science Academy (INSA) to promote exploratory and consultative visits. Among others, he saw scope for cooperation in IT, mathematics, chemistry, physics.
