Mohit is champion

BANGALORE: The top seed Mohit Kamath outclassed the third seed B.S. Phalgun 21-10, 21-19 and claimed the men’s singles title in the Vijayangar Club’s State-ranking badminton championship which concluded here on Sunday.

The results (all finals):

Men’s singles: Mohit Kamath bt B.S. Phalgun 21-10, 21-9. Doubles: Vineet Manuel & D. Guru Prasad bt Romit Dodeja & Harshil Shah 21-11, 21-14.

Veteran men’s singles: G. Vinay Siddaraj bt Jayaram Pai 22-20, 21-9. Doubles: K.P. Vasanth Kumar & K. Jayaram Pai bt Vinay Siddaraj & K.S. Kedarnath 19-21, 21-17, 211-8.

Senior women’s doubles (40 +): C.M. Kaveri & Elsa Tommy bt Sudha Prasad & Sharadha Muralidhar 21-14, 21-9.

Mandeep hits hundred

Presidency School (RT Nagar) crushed Holy Saint English School by 222 runs in the second phase of the Boost inter-school cricket tournament here.

Mandeep Singh starred for Presidency with a century (102).

The scores: Presidency School (RT Nagar) 268 for seven in 45 overs (Aman Raj 51, Mandeep Singh 102) bt Holy Saint English School 46 in 26.2 overs.

KSP scores win

Karnataka State Police (KSP) and Jindal Steel Works (Bellary) took contrasting routes to the final of the State Association Cup volleyball championship here.

KSP defeated Postal 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 easily with Sanoj spiking hard and Ravindra setting up the passes with finesse. However, Jindal had to weather a strong challenge from Madras Engineering Group (MEG) in five hard-fought sets. Jindal won 26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12.

MEG later beat Postal 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 without much ado to clinch the third spot.

Badminton tourney

Canara Union Charitable Trust (CUCT) will conduct Ramesh Padukone inter-school badminton tournament, which is being held annually in memory of Ramesh Padukone, former State Badminton Association secretary, and father of Indian legend Prakash Padukone, at its club courts here from November 1 to 4.
