Karnataka teams post wins

BANGALORE: Karnataka men and women scored easy wins over Puducherry in the 50th South Zone basketball championship. At the Vijayanagara Basketball Club courts in Hospet, Karnataka women did not have to enter the court after half-time as Puducherry conceded the match as rain came down heavily while the host men humbled Puducherry 53-10.

Karnataka men raced to a 19-0 lead by the first quarter and then eased its pace to try out its bench strength. Ronnie did the early damage with some speedy runs down the flanks.

TN men beat Lanka

Tamil Nadu men, with the return of former Asian All Star player S. Robinson in its ranks outclassed Sri Lanka 54-29. Robinson (17) and Chandrashekar (10) led the TN charge.

Sri Lanka packed too many guns for Andhra Pradesh to win 59-36 in a women’s match in Group ‘B’.

Tamil Nadu women outplayed Puducherry 51-16.

The scores: Men: Karnataka 53 bt Puducherry 10; Tamil Nadu 54 (S. Robinson 17, Chandrashekar 10) bt Sri Lanka 29 (Roshan 14).

Women: Karnataka 20 bt Puducherry 2 (Puducherry conceded the match); Sri Lanka 59 (Pramila 18, Kumarini 14) bt Andhra 36; Tamil Nadu 51 (Sunitha 10) bt Puducherry 16. — Special Correspondent
