CHENNAI: In the mixed trios event of the second National tenpin bowling team championships at the Mayajaal, near here on Saturday, the combination of Vijay Punjabi, Girish Gaba and Pratima Hegde of Karnataka won the gold medal by comfortably beating the team from Delhi by 42 pins. Gaba played a stellar role, averaging 195.33 in six games to ensure victory for his team. The team consisting of Harshavardhan Sarda, Dhruv Sarda and Anuradha Sarda of Delhi finished second. Tamil Nadu consisting of Lester Raj Mohan, Rahul Solanki and Sana Sunny was third, 82 pins behind. In the men’s all events category, Gaba is behind the leader Harshavardhan Sarda by 77 pins. He is followed by current National men’s champion Punjabi by 85 pins. In the women’s all events category, Hegde of Karnataka is ahead of the current National Champion Sumathi Nallabantu of Andhra Pradesh by 100 pins. The final event of the championships, the mixed team of five, will conclude on Sunday. At the end of first three games on Long Oil conditions, Karnataka leads last year’s gold medallist Tamil Nadu by a slender margin of eight pins. Day’s highlightThe day’s highlight was the fine performance by Rahul Solanki of Tamil Nadu who averaged 210 in three games which brought his team closer to the leader.
