Shanmathi, Jagadeesh steal the show

CHENNAI: S. Shanmathi (Maharishi Vidya Mandir) and M. Jagadeesh of Princess MHSS clinched double titles winning the below VIII and below X standard girls’ and boys’ categories respectively of the Balaram-Thiagarajen memorial table tennis schools tournament at SDAT-Chandra Academy here on Friday. Dr. Biswakumar gave away the prizes.

The results (finals):

Boys: Below VI Std: A. Seetharaman (Bhavan’s) bt A. Shri Krishna (Bhavan’s) 13-11, 4-11, 11-4, 11-9.

Below VIII: M. Jagadeesh (Princess) bt S. Gnaneswaran (Princess) 11-3, 11-6, 11-9b

Below X Std: M. Jagadeesh bt Sowmiya Narayanan (NPS) 11-4, 11-7, 11-8.

Girls: below VI Std: Selena Deepti (Good Shepherd) bt Narmada (Jupiter) 11-4, 11-2, 11-6.

Below VIII: S. Shanmathi (MVM) bt Selena Deepti (Good Shepherd) 11-3, 11-9, 11-4.

Below X: S. Shanmathi bt S. Rukmini Sri (PS SSS) 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-7.

Below XII: S. Rukmini Sri bt Shivani (Chettinad) 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 12-10.

Easy for Indira Gandhi Memorial HC

Indira Gandhi Memorial HC defeated Cornation Youngsters 4-1 in a Chennai Hockey Association first division league match at SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Thursday.

Dayanidhi, Balakumar, Dinakaran and Thirugnanam were the scorers. Md. Haseeb Basha found the target for Cornation.

In another match, Income Tax RC beat The Hindu 2-0 with Muralidharan scoring a brace.

TNCA league matches postponed

All TNCA league cricket matches scheduled for Saturday, October 18, in Chennai have been postponed because of inclement weather.

Rain plays havoc

The third day of the under-14 cricket match between City and Combined Districts in Chennai was called off because of overnight rain.
