Wage hike likely for APCO, sugar coops’ staff
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The salaries of the employees working in 11 co-operative sugar factories and the APCO, the apex body of the primary weaver co-operative societies, are being raised.
Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday gave his approval to increase the daily wages of weaver-members of primary weavers’ co-operative societies to Rs 150.
Major Industries and Sugar Minister J. Geetha Reddy told reporters after a meeting with the Chief Minister that a bi-partite committee would be appointed immediately to study the pay structure in sugar factories and the hike would be implemented once the panel submitted its report. Mr. K. Lakshminarayana, Commissioner, Sugar, said there were seven categories of employees in the sugar factories, with the lowest category getting Rs. 4,500 a month on an average. The hike was last effected in 1998 and the revision was due from 2002.
M. Sreeramulu APCO chairman said the staff would be paid 2005 Pay Revision Commission scales soon after the proposal gets cleared.
