Hyderabad defeats Bhopal

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad defeated Bhopal 25-13, 26-24 in the volleyball competitions of the 39th National sports meet of Kendriya Vidyalayas here on Thursday.

In tennis, Chennai beat Kolkata by three matches to one and in football Kolkata got the better of Delhi 2-1. In kabaddi, Delhi beat Silchar 57-15.

Athletics (winners only): Boys: U-19: 3000m: Alok Kumar (Chandigarh) 9:57.4s; Long jump: Aman Murmu (Kolkata) 6.40 m.

U-17: 3000m: Naveen Kumar Yadav (Chandigarh) 9:48.1s; Long jump: Bikash Murmu (Kolkata) 6.25m; 100m: H. Arjun (Chennai) 14.6s.

Rao, Sampath elected

G. Sathyanarayana Rao and G.M. Sampath Kumar were unanimously elected President and General Secretary of the Hyderabad District Basketball Association for the term 2009-2012 at the Annual General Body Meeting of the Association held on Wednesday.

Srinivas in semifinals

K. Srinivas Rao beat B. Sai Praneet 6-2 in the boys’ under-14 quarterfinal of the YMCA mini and sub-junior tennis tournament to commemorate the Kargil Victory, on Thursday.

Big win for St. Andrew’s

St. Andrews thrashed Pallavi Model School 7-0 in the Dr. John de Souza Trophy inter-school football tournament on Thursday. The scorers were Vatsa (2), Sankeerth (3) Goutham and Mukesh (one each).

In another match ZPHS beat St. Michaels 3-0. Surya Kiran, Abdul Rehman and Paul Subramanyam scored for the winner. In the third match Gitanjali HS and St. Theresa’s were locked in a goalless draw.

YMCA chess

The YMCA of Greater Hyderabad Narayanaguda Branch will conduct the annual YMCA Tatipally Gopala Krishna Trophy prize money chess tournament from Nov. 6 to 15. Last date of receiving the entries is Nov. 5 by 5 p.m.
