UPA regime against Sri Lankan Tamils’ interests: BJP

Tiruvannamalai: BJP State president L. Ganesan on Thursday alleged that UPA government was against the interests of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Addressing reporters after a party workers’ meeting here, Mr. Ganesan said since DMK was part of the Union government, it need not have conducted all-party meetings and raise demands; instead, it should have acted.
India has sent 265 experts to help the Sri Lankan Army in its radar and other operations.
The act came into light only when two of the experts were injured in LTTE air strikes. While the State unit of the BJP condemned it, the DMK never did, Mr. Ganesan said.
While the Sri Lankan government has been declaring that they will destroy the Tigers, they are not giving an assurance on devolution of powers to Tamils, he said.
Criticising Indo-US nuclear deal, Mr. Ganesan said India should enact a legislation which would make it mandatory for governments to get parliamentary nod before entering into international agreements.
