Rosaiah named chairman of Congress party’s campaign committee


HYDERABAD: The All-India Congress Committee on Thursday announced a 36-member executive of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee with more than 50 per cent representation to weaker sections, minorities and women.

Keeping in mind the crucial elections next year, the elaborate exercise jointly done by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas gave top priority to young blood.

Dr. Reddy’s stamp of approval was clearly visible with a number of his followers making it to the new body. Several office-bearers in the last body constituted by then APCC chief M. Satyanarayana Rao were dropped.

Two stalwarts

It has 15 vice-presidents and 20 general secretaries besides a treasurer. The AICC named Finance Minister K. Rosaiah as the chairman of the party’s campaign committee while Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani will head the manifesto committee.

The new body has 13 persons from other castes and equal number from the BC communities besides four Schedules Castes, two Scheduled Tribes and three minorities. Telangana bagged 16 posts followed by 15 (Andhra) and four (Rayalaseema). None from Nizamabad, Medak, Khammam, Vizianagaram and Anantapur districts were included in the new PCC. Newly appointed general secretary Nadendla Manohar said the party had reposed faith in a large number of young leaders keeping in view the forthcoming elections.

Mr. Niranjan, who was retained as general secretary said the new PCC gave equal importance to all castes and communities and also regions.

The list of PCC office bearers are: vice presidents – Ratna Bai, S. Indrasain Reddy, Vasanta Nageswara Rao (former Home Minister and APCOB chairman) , P.V.Raghavulu (former Minister), P. Ramachandra Reddy (MLA), Shaik Hussain (MLC), Ramakrishna Raju, S. Jagadeeshwar Reddy, Pitla Krishna, Thota Narasimham (MLA), Madasu Gangadharam, Hari Rama Devi, Y. Maria Das, B. Arogyam and K. Aruna (ZP Chairman, Prakasam).

General secretaries – Nadendla Manohar (MLA), D. V. Satyanarayana, Thippeswamy, Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, Tripurana Venkatratnam, Rudraraju Padma Raju, G. Niranjan, G. Adiseshagiri Rao (AP Film Development Corporation Chairman), B. Karunakar Reddy (former TTD chairman), Abid Rasool Khan, G. Rudraraju, D. Sudhir Reddy (former HUDA Chairman), Narella Sharada, T. Venkat Rao (MLA), Ambati Rambabu (former chairman, APIIC), Narasimha Reddy, Venkat Rao (INTUC), P. Lakshminarayana, B. Rajani and L. Radha Lagawath. Treasurer – Rayachoti Ramaiah (former MLA).
