Hacked to death

TIRUVARUR: P. Rajendran (45), Kottur union secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), was hacked to death by two unidentified persons in Akkaraikottagam village near Tiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district on Thursday.
Police sources told The Hindu that Mr. Rajendran was coming by car from Kalappal to Kottur. When he got down at Akkaraikottagam, the two persons, who were following him on a motorbike, attacked him and escaped. The Kottur police have registered a case. Tension prevailed in Kottur following the murder. Police pickets were posted to avert any untoward incident.
