KORAPUT: District Collector Balakrishna Sahu has directed BDOs of all the 14 blocks in the district to send their accountants and cashiers to the DRDA office here with cash books of the National Food For Work (NFFW) – 2005 on Friday. The directive was a sequel to the allegations of misappropriation of funds made by ZP members at the meeting held here on Thursday. ZP president Ashok Pangi chaired the meeting. ZP member from Lamtaput Jagdish Panigrahy highlighted the plight of hundreds of workers of the cashew plantation undertaken by the Soil Conservation Department in 2005-06. He said that the workers were not paid daily wages till date. Koraput MLA T. Bahinipati said that more than Rs.1 crore was yet to be paid to workers under the scheme in the district. Action soughtAcknowledging that many workers were deprived of their wages following merger of the NFFW with the NREGA during that period, the Collector directed the DRDA to prepare a report in this regard in three days. Jeypore MLA Rabinarayan Nanda sought firm action against officials responsible for the delay.
