KORAPUT: The ad hoc arrangement put in place to supply LPG has been causing untold hardship to consumers in Rayagada for the last 15 months. It all started after the HP Gas Company Limited suspended the local dealer last year. The company then entrusted Mutyalamma Gas Agency in Koraput with the additional task of catering to the 10,000- odd consumers in Rayagada for some three months. Even as the Mutyalamma agency is finding it difficult to cater to the consumers located some 120 km away, the company has asked it to continue supply of cylinders to Rayagada after the three-month time expired. The agency has been storing cylinders in a temporary shed at a far-off place in the town. But, in the absence of any office of the agency in the town or the facility to book the order over telephone, the consumers are left in the lurch. While admitting that consumers are facing lot of difficulty in booking a cylinder, proprietor of Mutyalamma Gas Agency K. Satyanarayana says that it is highly impossible for a single agency to cater to the requirements of two important towns. “I have approached the district administration and even the company with a request to relieve my agency of the additional responsibility,” he says. In a letter to the Rayagada district Collector, Mr. Satyanarayana has urged that the responsibility of distributing gas be handed over to the Civil Supplies Department till a final arrangement is worked out by the company. “The existence of fake connections in Rayagada town needs a full-fledged agency,” he says.
