Seven firms have purchased bid documents as on date

Chennai: Several private project developers have evinced interest in the Chennai Corporation’s proposed multi-level parking facility to come up off Greams Road.

The Corporation had floated tenders for the construction of a fully-automated multi-level parking facility near Apollo Hospital on Greams Lane. Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni said that firms interested in the project had participated in a pre-bid meeting on Wednesday to seek clarifications on the terms of the project agreement.

Seven firms have purchased the bid documents as on date.

The last date to submit the completed documents is October 30 and the bids would be opened the same evening.

The proposed facility would have space for about 240 cars .

The project developer could also provide commercial and retail space in the facility conforming to the Development Control Rules. Extra parking space would have to be made to meet the demands of commercial development.

Parking fare

The Corporation has fixed the parking fees at Rs. 20 for cars for the first hour of parking, Rs. 30 for two hours, Rs. 40 for three hours and Rs. 50 for more than three hours.

Similarly, two-wheeler parking would cost Rs. 5 for the first hour, Rs. 10 for two hours, Rs. 15 for three hours, Rs. 20 for four hours and Rs. 25 for five hours and more.

The private developer would be given two years to construct the facility from the date of the contract and would get to operate it for 20 years.

Parking fees could be increased by five per cent every annum but would have to be rounded off to the nearest multiple of five.

The Corporation is also in the process of identifying project developers for a multi-level parking facility in Broadway bus terminus.
