Jayalalithaa slams resolution on Sri Lanka

Special Correspondent

“Since the government has 2 years to complete there is no mention about it”

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalitha on Wednesday wanted to know why Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who boasted about his resignation as an MLA in the past in support of the Sri Lankan Tamils, had not passed a resolution that the MLAs would also resign and the state government would quit.

“Since the state government has two-and-half years to complete there is no mention about it in the resolution,” she said in a statement. The resolution talked about the resignation of MPs because their term would be over in six months.

“If elections to the Lok Sabha are advanced because of the current political situation, their term will come to an end in three or four months. He thinks that he is not going to lose anything,” he said.

As regards the resignation submitted by DMK MP Kanimozhi, Ms. Jayalalitha said if she had real concerns for Sri Lankan Tamils, she should have submitted it to the chairman of the Rajya Sabha. “Her letter is not worth the paper on which it has been written,” she said.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said if Mr. Karunanidhi was really interested in the welfare of the Sri Lankan Tamils, he should ask the Ministers from Tamil Nadu to quit the Union Cabinet. “All the Lok Sabha members should withdraw their support to the Central government ,” she added.
