VISAKHAPATNAM: City boxer V. Santosh Kumar gladdened the hearts of sports lovers in the city when he entered the final of light welterweight category in the boxing competition of the Youth Commonwealth Games in Pune on Thursday. Santosh defeated Robert of Scotland with a decisive score of 15-4 in the semi-finals. He will be meeting a South African boxer in the final and is certain to win gold, secretary of District Amateur Boxing Association G.V. Raviraju, who is also an Asian Boxing Federation referee and judge and is officiating in the meet, informed from Pune. Another boxer from the city V. Durga Rao picked up bronze medal in the Youth Commonwealth Games on Thursday. He went down to a competitor from England 3-14 in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals on Wednesday Durga Rao overwhelmed an Australian boxer 13-4 and Santosh formed the referee to stop the contest in the first round itself in the quarterfinal bout against an Australian boxer when the later suffered an injury.
