Training to foster positive values towards HIV/AIDS

The Department of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi launched a 12-day training programme in HIV counselling for the para-medical staff of the Central Para-military Forces Medical Services earlier this week.

The training sessions are being held at Nehru Guest House on the Jamia campus up to October 24.

“The aim of the training is to enhance knowledge about HIV/AIDS and to foster positive values and attitudes towards people living with HIV/AIDS. The National AIDS Control Organisation has identified the Psychology Department as a training centre and Waheeda Khan of the Department is the director of the training programme,” said an official release.

“The programme is quite exhaustive and will prepare the trainees in improving their knowledge and skills in voluntary counselling and testing of HIV/AIDS and thus help in prevention of the syndrome in their respective organisations,” said a Jamia spokesperson.

“The training programme will cover a number of issues like basics of counselling, values and attitudes of a counsellor, pre and post-test counselling, crisis intervention and management of psychological distress in patients with HIV/AIDS,” the spokesperson added.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in the Capital has introduced a Master of Education programme to be offered under the newly established University School of Education on its campus.

The Board will be chaired by Malvinder Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited. The B-school will launch a “Global Executive MBA programme” at the New Delhi centre.
