Chennai: TNCA was 18 runs short of a victory over Hyderabad with two wickets in hand at stumps on the third day of the inter-State South Zone under-22 third round cricket match for the P. Ramachandra Rao Trophy at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, on Wednesday. Off-spinner R. Ashwin, as has been his wont, was unplayable, finishing with seven second innings wickets for 48 runs.
Openers Akshith Reddy and D.B. Ravi Teja were dismissed quickly after the latter’s defence was breached with the team’s score on 10. Hyderabad lost its third wicket (P.S.S. Bharat) after wicket-keeper K.H. Gopinath executed a stumping off Ashwin. A collapseAshwin’s line engineered a collapse, which saw the innings close at 129. TNCA struggled in its second innings with Hyderabad left-arm spinner G. Lalith Mohan claiming three wickets. The host looked in danger of suffering a three-day defeat before L. Vignesh and Ashwin put on an unbroken 20 runs for the eighth wicket. In another match, KSCA declared at 300 for eight at the ICL Gurunanak after medium-pacer Saurabh Bandekar claimed five wickets for Goa. Yudhishthir Singh (61) and Bandekar (34) saved Goa from following on, putting on 68 runs for the sixth wicket. AT CPT-IP, bad light stopped play with Andhra at 43 for one against Kerala. Kerala made 256. The scores: Hyderabad 178 & 129 in 47.4 overs (R. Ashwin seven for 48) vs. TNCA 178 & 112 for eight in 56 overs; KSCA 300 for eight decl. in 99 overs (Ganesh Sathish 140, K.C. Avinash 43, Saurabh Bandekar five for 53) & 78 for no loss in 20 overs vs. Goa 151 in 63.1 overs (Yudhishthir Singh 61, Sunil N. Raju four for 36); Kerala 256 in 116.1 overs (C.P.
