Congress charge baseless: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday described the Congress charge as “baseless” that the State government denied Sonia Gandhi permission to kick off her party’s campaign from Bhopal.

“She [Sonia] is welcome to Bhopal. She is the leader of a national party,” Mr. Chouhan said here on Tuesday night.

“Not only Sonia, leaders of all political parties are free to come and do electioneering in any part of the State. BJP believes in strong democratic values,” he added.

PCC president Suresh Pachouri on Tuesday claimed in Bhopal that the government denied the party permission to hold meeting on the Lal Parade grounds on October 19, stating it was a high risk area. — PTI
