SUCCESS MODEL: Puducherry Minister for Welfare and Co-operatives M. Kandasamy (third from right) at a function organised by the Karaikal Milk Producers’ Union. KARAIKAL: The Puducherry government would consider starting colleges and bus services using the co-operative movement, M. Kandasamy, Minister for Welfare and Co-operatives, said here on Monday. He said that the government would try to emulate the successes of the co-operative movement in Kerala. Bonus demandRecent demand from employees for bonus payments would cost the government nearly Rs.15 lakh. The government could not grant these demands immediately due to budget constraints. He asked that the employees co-operate with the administration to make the co-operative movement a success. The Minister said that the remuneration in the department would be based on efficiency of the employees and any mistakes would be taken serious note of. More co-operative posts would be opened in rural areas. The government would try to increase the productivity. Milk booths openedEarlier, Mr. Kandasamy opened 24 hour milk dispensing booths near Kamaraj Square and in the Karaikal Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union complex. He also distributed milk containers free to society members. He appealed to the society members to take loans to increase milk production. Leader of Opposition A. M. H. Nazim and MLAs P. R. Siva, V. K. Ganapathy and A. Marimuthu appealed to the Minister to start more such booths in other areas. The minister promised to consider their request in the near future. Collector N. Vasanthakumar, deputy registrar Vasanthakumar, union chair person R. Prabavathy and others participated in the function.
