Congress screening panel shortlists names for Delhi
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Between one and four names were shortlisted on Wednesday for each of the 70 Delhi Assembly constituencies by the Screening Committee constituted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the purpose.
The Committee is chaired by All-India Congress Committee general secretary Mohsina Kidwai and has AICC general secretaries Ashok Gehlot, Jagmeet Brar and B. K. Hariprasad as it members along with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal.
Meeting
The meeting on Wednesday was the third of the panel which had first met on October 7 and then on October 13.
It would again meet on October 20 when the names of the candidates are shortlisted further before the final list is sent to the Central Election Committee chaired by Ms Gandhi.
Party sources said the process of short-listing was going on smoothly. With many of the members being old-time colleagues of Ms. Dikshit from the Congress (Tiwari) days and Mr. Agarwal not putting his weight behind any “favourites”, sources said the party is expected to pick candidates who stand the best chance of winning in the Assembly polls.
