Staff Reporter

No permanent steps taken to solve crisis in powerloom industry, says Goud

PATIENT HEARING: NTPP president T. Devender Goud interacting with a widow of a weaver at Sircilla in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

KARIMNAGAR: Nava Telangana Praja Party president T. Devender Goud on Wednesday visited Sircilla and consoled the bereaved families of powerloom weavers, who committed suicide due to unemployment and increasing debts.

Mr. Goud along with NTPP leader E. Peddi Reddy and others visited the weaver-dominated localities of B.Y. Nagar and Sundaraiah Nagar and consoled the bereaved families and handed over financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 each to four weavers’ families.

‘Mahadharna’

Later, the NTPP leaders participated in ‘mahadharna’ programme in front of the RDO office in the town.

Speaking on the occasion, the NTPP leaders flayed the State government for not taking any permanent measures to solve the crisis in the powerloom industry.

He alleged that the government’s negligent policies were forcing suicides among artisans including weavers. He stressed the need for introducing economic reforms for the uplift of weavers.

Claiming that the Telugu Desam Party had changed its stand on Telangana statehood issue after he quit the party, Mr. Goud said the TDP was playing the same drama played by the Congress in 2004 elections on Telangana statehood issue.

Ridicules TDP

He ridiculed the Telugu Desam Party for changing its stand suddenly on Telangana when it claimed that it was for an integral Andhra Pradesh after the byelection in the Telangana region. He said the Nava Telangana Praja Party would further intensify the movement for separate Telangana in November.
