BHC, JMC make the grade

TIRUCHI: Bishop Heber College (BHC) and Jamal Mohammed College (JMC) qualified for the Bharathidasan University inter-zonal basketball tournament from Tiruchi division here on Wednesday.

The results: Semifinals: Bishop Heber 79 (Ganapathyraman 24, Maheshraja 15, Dinesh Babu 13, Welgin Joseph 13) bt St. Joseph’s 54 (Kailash 16, Sriram 14); Jamal Mohammed 54 (Mujebar Raguman 14, Ramkumar 13) bt Government Arts (Karur) 20.

Third place: St. Joseph’s 55 (Sriram 20, Kailash 15) bt Government Arts 48 (Manivel 23).

Learn to swim

The Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will conduct the ‘learn to swim’ programme at the Anna Stadium swimming pool, Tiruchi, from October 16 to 29.

YMCA takes trophy

YMCA (Chennai) defeated American College HSS (Madurai) 4-3 via tie-breaker to win the SKC Trophy at the 12th State-level inter-school football tournament in Dindigul on Wednesday.

Uthayakani scalps six

P. Uthayakani scalped six wickets as Skill XI defeated Challengers by 61 runs in a Dindigul DCA third division cricket league match in Dindigul.

First division: Seeni Bala 150 in 38.4 overs (Rajkumar 44) lost to PSNA CET 151 for eight in 31.2 overs (K. Maheshwaran 41 n.o.).

Mansur Youngsters 165 for nine in 45 overs lost to Jahir 166 for five in 34.4 overs (Kiran 40).

Second division: Mansur 170 for seven in 23 overs bt RVS SC 132 for nine in 25 overs (Sathish Kumar 40).

Godsons Group 125 for nine in 25 overs (P. Sundar 55) lost to Playboys 129 for three in 21.4 overs.
