PSG CAS and Krishna book semifinal berths

Coimbatore: Favourite PSG CAS and Sri Krishna CAS got past their opponents with ease to enter the semifinals of the Bishop Appasamy Memorial Trophy inter-Collegiate basketball tournament at the Bishop Appasamy College courts, here on Wednesday.

PSG defeated Park Engineering 52-26 and Sri Krishna drubbed Bishop Ambrose College 54-10. Host Bishop Appasamy CAS and Karunya University were the other two teams to make it to the semifinals.

The results:

Quarterfinals:

PSG CAS 52 (Akilan 15, Suresh 15) bt Park Engineering 26 (Shakthi Velmurugan 10, Manoj 10.

Sri Krishna CAS 54 (Saravana Kumar 10, Praveen 10) bt Bishop Ambrose CAS 10).

Karunya University 74 (Dibumon 34, Thiyagarajan 10, Satheesh 10) bt Dr. GRD CS 57 (Devandra Pandian 13, Magesh 14, Nambirajan 10).

Bishop Appasamy CAS 67 (Santhosh 20, James 11) bt STC (Pollachi) 45 (Sankar 18, Prasanth 13).

Coimbatore students for Indo-China meet

M. Karthiga of Tamil Nadu College of Engineering and Varshini and Aparna from Kumaraguru College of Technology will represent the country in the Indo-China throwball championship to be held in Beijing, China, from October 18 to 21.

For Karthiga, it was a dream come true as the college management came to her rescue by meeting the tournament expense of Rs. 55,000.

Anusha R. Mahesh, TCE’s Chief Executive, presented the cheque to her.

Podanur Youth Club prevails

Podanur Youth Club, with four points, emerged the champion of the SDAT-CDHA hockey league at the Bharathiar University grounds on Wednesday.

The Podanur boys notched up a 3-0 win over Flash Hockey Club in its last super league match for the title.

The results:

Super league: Pondanur YC 1 (Romell Harris) drew with Maruthi CPE 1 (Prathap), Podanur YC 3 (Romell Harris, Dhanraj, Gregory) bt Flash Hockey Club 0.

Final standing:

1. Podanur YC (4 points), 2. Maruthi CPE (2), 3. Flash Hockey Club (1).
