Minister’s son charged with raping minor German girl

PANAJI: The elder son of Goa’s Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte was on Tuesday charged with raping a minor German girl.

The 21-year-old Rohit has been accused of sexually and mentally abusing the 14-year-old girl and charged with offences including rape, abetment to crime and outraging modesty.

Mr. Monseratte, an unattached MLA of the United Goan Democratic Party, claimed that his son was not involved in the crime. Police said Rohit’s arrest was imminent.

The police action came after a German researcher Fadela Fuchs had complained on October 2 that her daughter was being mentally and sexually abused by Rohit.

In a related incident, noted social activist Aires Rodrigues was assaulted by a group of people here. — PTI
