GIFT OF GAB: G. Kalyani, Principal of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Tiruchi, felicitating S. Revathy of II B.A. Tamil. TIRUCHI: Extraordinary linguistic skills, eloquence in Tamil, proficiency in English, thirst for gathering information, sharp memory, ability to be persuasive without getting emotional, clarity in communication… These are among the virtues that have spurred S. Revathy, a second year undergraduate student of Tamil Literature at Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College into winning an array of laurels for the institution over the past couple of years in elocution competitions held at district and State levels and a collection of Rs. 40,000 as cash awards. She also participated in various television and All India Radio programmes and won prizes. Revathy’s tryst with success began in September 2007 when she bagged the cash award of Rs. 6,000 in the university-level Tamil elocution competition organised by ‘Kalaignar Arakattalai’. She went on to win several cash awards in the district level extempore / elocution competitions in quick succession, carefully cultivating a style of her own. The ‘Murasolli Arakattalai’ honoured her with Rs. 1,000 in August 2008, appreciating her memory power in a recitation competition. Revathi received the prize from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Crowing her achievements was the award of Rs. 25,000 Revathi received as the first prize in the extempore competition conducted by the Tamil University, Thanjavur, last month, in connection with the Anna Centenary celebrations. With such a high determination, Revathi is certain to achieve greater successes in future, according to Principal G. Kalyani.
