VILLUPURAM: The Estimates Committee of the State Legislative Assembly, led by M. Appavu, MLA, has hinted that a computerised watery supply system will soon be introduced in Villupuram district. During visit to various centres in the district , Mr. Appavau said that already the computerised water supply system was in place at Coimbatore and Dindigul. It would help gauge the storage level in the ground-level reservoirs (GLRs) and overhead tanks . At Madur, the panel inspected the Rishivandhiyam Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme that was also benefiting 92 wayside villages in Thiagadurgam, Chinna Salem and Kallakurichi blocks. Later, the committee went to the Kallakurichi Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School where the parents pointed out that the school did not have a playground. The committee directed the district officials to evict the encroachments and hand over the ground to the school. Chinna Salem MLA T. Udayasuryan said that he would allocate Rs.5 lakh from the Local Area Development Fund for construction of a compound. At the government hospital, the committee voiced its concern over the lack of facilities at the maternity ward. It also directed the hospital authorities to get the X-Ray equipment repaired and procure a generator.
