Eateries to be identified for Commonwealth Games

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority will identify 1,000 small and medium eating establishments in different parts of Delhi during the Commonwealth Games 2010. They will be assisted to improve hygiene and safety to specified levels.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the Authority that also agreed to develop standards of safety and hygiene and training of personnel undertaken through professional agencies.

The successful establishments would then be audited and certified.

These would be given a suitable symbol and monitored periodically.

It was also proposed to bring out a directory of safe eating establishments for distribution to visitors.

These eating joints would be identified in food clusters covering different types of cuisines in the city. An appropriate logo would be devised and the entire scheme implemented with the support of the Authority.

A similar scheme could later be taken up in other cities.
