Grievance cell for patients visiting government hospitals

Nagercoil: The district administration has formed a ‘consultation, supervision and grievance cell’ to help patients visiting government hospitals to air their grievances and get them redressed, said the Collector, B.Jothi Nirmala.

Speaking to presspersons, she said that with the setting up of such a cell patients could inform their difficulties to the officials to get better treatment. The delay in getting medical treatment could also be averted. Patients, representatives of various political parties and non-governmental organisation and the public could give suggestions for the development of hospitals in the district.

In case of emergency, the public can contact free ambulance service by dialling the number 1056. People could also contact the toll free number 277242 for any emergency service.

The Government has allotted a sum of Rs.1.97 lakh under integrated diseases monitoring scheme such as Malaria, Dengue, Chikangunya, Cholera, Typhoid and Jaundice. Another Rs.27.87 lakh has also been allotted under the Janani Suraksha Yojana.

More than 4,000 pregnant women were benefited under this scheme.

Similarly, the State Government has allotted Rs.20 lakh under ‘Varumun Kappom Thittam’. More than 1.36 lakh were benefited under the scheme by way of 224 free medical camps held in the district. Besides, 2,184 patients were referred for special treatment.

The Government has allotted a sum of Rs.3.30 lakh for heart surgery of 55 children in different parts of the district. A sum of Rs.10 lakh had also been allotted to provide better medical treatment to those living in rural areas at their door step. Mobile medical teams would visit 33 villages (2 village per day) to provide medical treatment to the affected people.

The patient welfare association had already been started in 31 primary health centres and a sum of Rs.54 lakhs to provide basic amenities in these PHCs.

A sum of Rs.78,000 has been allotted to ensure the welfare of the patients admitted in primary health centres for pregnancy and family planning.
