Chitradurga: On the first day, 117 aspirants participated in the police recruitment drive at the police grounds here on Monday. The Chitradurga police conducted physical and medical fitness tests for the police constable aspirants. Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram, who chaired the process, told The Hindu that the district had 80 vacancies of civil police constable, of which eight were reserved for women and five for ex-servicemen. He said a written test was conducted on August 31, which was attended by 4,348 participants from various parts of the State. Only 456 cleared the examination and were called for the physical and medical tests. Mr. Labhu Ram said the physical test included a 100-metre and 800-metre race, high jump, long jump and shot put. The applicant should qualify in at least three of the events for selection. Although the police had called 134 applicants on the first day, only 117 turned up. The drive would be held for four days. On October 16, recruitment for women police constables would be held, Mr. Labhu Ram added.
