KOZHIKODE: It is unfortunate that the high pass percentage in the SSLC/Plus Two examinations in the State is being interpreted in a biased manner, Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes A.K. Balan has said. “There is an opinion from certain quarters that the high passes percentage in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations is an indication that there is a fall in the quality of education in the State,” the Minister said. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the new building of Kuttiyadi Government Higher Secondary School, near here, on Monday. The new building, to accommodate 12 classrooms, is being constructed at a cost of Rs.1.10 crore provided by the district panchayat. Explaining the priority accorded to the education sector by the LDF government, Mr. Balan said it was high time that to change lopsided views about government schools. The fact that government schools can provide quality education to students should be accepted, he said. Mr. Balan also inaugurated the new building of Atholi Government Vocational Higher Secondary School built at a cost of Rs.9.5 lakh.
