Kozhikode: People from different walks of life led by Governor of Nagaland K. Sankaranarayanan and social critic Sukumar Azhikode gathered at the Tagore Centenary Hall in the city on Monday to applaud the contributions of K. Moidu, a founder-leader of the Muslim Educational Society (MES) and chairman of National Hospital. Speakers at a civic reception arranged in honour of the senior doctor pointed out that it was by sheer hard work over the past five decades that Dr. Moidu built up his reputation in the areas of education and health care.

Dr. Moidu is also the chairman of a chain of educational institutions, including a medical college, a dental college, an engineering college and colleges offering paramedical courses. Mr. Sankaranarayanan said that few would dispute the contributions being made by hospitals in the private sector, like Dr. Moidu’s National Hospital, in providing quality medical care. However, he appealed to private hospitals to ensure that the poor were provided health care at reasonable rates. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy also turned up to greet Dr. Moidu.
