Sai Kartik wins in Colombo

VISAKHAPATNAM: N. Sai Kartik of Visakhapatnam scored an important win in the ITF juniors tennis events when he claimed the doubles title and finished runner-up in the singles after taking a set off of the top seed in the ITF Grade V tournament in Colombo recently.

Kartik, seeded No. 3 in singles, lost to Vaidik Munshaw, also of India, 1-6, 6-2, 0-6.

Meanwhile, partnering Siva Kumar, Kartik won the doubles title. The third-seeded pair upset the top-seeded duo of Munshaw and Marfatia 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the final. Kartik beat Kittipong Cheinwichai of Thailand 7-5, 6-3 in the singles semifinals after accounting for Kong Pop Lertchai of Thailand 7-5,6-4 in the quarterfinals and P. Sai Teja of India 7-6(4), 6-3. He scored a 6-1, 6-2 win over Eshan Jayamanne of Sri Lanka in the first round.
